This exam has been formulated and designed for the students who wish to study undergraduate medical courses (MBBS) , dental courses (BDS) in government, private medical colleges, and dental colleges in India.
At present, the undergraduate NEET-UG for MBBS and BDS courses is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This agency provides the results to the Directorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Before 2019, the test was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in partnership with Prometric Testing Pvt. Ltd. headquartered in the US.
In the year 2013, NEET replaced the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and all individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges.
Currently, in the academic year of 2021 and onwards, entrance exams to undergraduate courses at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) are included within the ambit of NEET-UG by the Government of India.
